SanDisk Sansa e200 Silicone Case (White) Review

It's more of a soft cover than a case, to help prevent scracthes and reduce impacts. I got it much cheaper than it's current price showing though. It's a nice feel and give a good grip due to being silicon, smells nice, and doesn't get in the way of button pressing.

Not much else to say, beside it doesn't have a hole to put the microSD card through, which might be a good thing since you can't loose the card that way.

SanDisk 2 GB Extreme IV CompactFlash Card with FireWire Reader ( SDCFRX4-2048-901 ) Review

I recently purchased both this item and a SIIG Hi-Speed ExpressCard CF reader. The SanDisk device comes with both FW800 and FW400 cables, which I needed for a legacy laptop that only has FW400 and no ExpressCard slot.

I could not find speed comparisons online, so I ran some comparisons myself between the ExpressCard device and the Sandisk reader using FW800. Using a Lexar Professional 8GB CF card (233x speed), both devices transferred a single 1.3 GB video file to my MacBook Pro (late 2008) in just under 35 seconds.

I find support for Firewire-based devices to be much more mature in OS X and I've never crashed my MacBook with a firewire device. The SanDisk reader is very compact, and if you're like me and already carry a FW800 cable for other peripherals, there's really no advantage to the ExpressCard reader.

The ExpressCard device is very fast, on par with a FW800 device. However, the support for the ExpressCard device within Leopard is finicky at best, and on a few occasions inserting the device with a card already installed caused a kernel panic as described by the previous reviewer. User beware, and always save your work before inserting the device.

Although it's a bit more expensive (about $30), I'd recommend this device over the ExpressCard reader.

SanDisk Sansa c240 1 GB MP3 Player (Black) Review

I bought this mp3 player a week after it first came out. It's been at least two years since then and I haven't regretted the purchase once. Originally, I had a generation 2 iPod which was stolen and had to be replaced. I had never really liked the iPod (personal preference) but I loved the Sansa 240.

If you are looking for a simple mp3 player that you just want for listening to music, this is the one for you. You can shuffle the music; play music by artist, genre, album, or song (as long as you have working ID3 tags); listen to the radio; and record voice (I haven't had any need to try this feature). Apparently you can also put pictures and view it from the tiny screen, but I haven't had any need to try and see if it works. If you press the select button while a song is playing, the screen will show the album art (if the ID3 tags are correct).

Perhaps the best thing is that you can expand the music capacity since there's a micro SD card (SDHC won't work since this mp3 player came out before them, so the memory expansion is limited in that respect).

I have a few complaints, but none of them really marred my experience with this mp3 player (and so didn't bump down my rating). The shuffle feature is faulty. Sometimes, in one sitting, a song will come up multiple times. Also, the mp3 player seems to prefer starting on certain songs (many times, the same song would be the first one it played when I turned it on). The battery icon cannot always be trusted. I've been able to get hours of use off my c240 even when the battery icon said it was nearly empty. I would have liked the ability to create more than just one playlist.

The battery life is OK -- I've taken the Sansa on road trips of up to 8 hrs and there's been no problems.

It was smaller than my old iPod so it was easier to take with me to the gym yet it still has a screen unlike the shuffle. I put it in a protective cover and attached a lanyard and it was perfect. The only reason I'd consider buying another mp3 player anytime soon is for more storage of music. I have no interest in watching videos or playing games on my mp3 player, so for a no-fuss-no-muss mp3 player this is a great one!

SanDisk 8GB Cruzer USB 2.0 Flash Drive (SDCZ36-008G-A11, Retail Package) Review

I bought one of these because it was on sale. I would've preferred a SanDisk Cruzer Micro 8 GB Flash Drive instead, but I didn't know how much I would've preferred it until I bought this.

This version doesn't seem to be a replacement of the Micro, so I imagine it's faster, but there probably isn't a noticeable difference. The differences I noticed were aesthetic. This drive is pretty small, but it's slightly bigger than the Micro. I don't get the weird contour thing either. It's like a skewed parallelogram. The "switch" is the same way and I really don't think it makes it look any better. A more functional difference is the switch itself. The Micro's switch needed a moderate amount of pressure to get the drive to extend and about the same amount to retract. The regular Cruzer opens much easier, which I can't say I appreciate, and it may be a little harder to close than the Micro. I'm sure you've been wondering as well, does this thing have a lanyard loop? Yes, it does. It's on the back so most pictures won't show it. I think it's tighter than the Micro's lanyard hole. About the only thing I could get to fit it was an actual lanyard (this drive doesn't come with a lanyard by the way). The Micro comes with a small key ring at least, which I doubt would fit the Cruzer.

The Cruzer series goes up to 32GB as of this review (the Micro goes up to 16GB). So if you need one that big I'd say this is a good drive. If you need a smaller one I'd go with the comparably cheaper Cruzer Micro series.

I bought it for Sony SR12 camcorder. It can take 1941 pics at highest quality setting, or it can record 57 minutes at HD FH setting, 117 minutes at HD HQ setting or 142 minutes at HD SP setting. Write speed is noticeably faster than my old stick when taking pictures.

SanDisk 8 GB Extreme IV CompactFlash Card ( SDCFX4-8192-901, US Retail Package ) Review

As the title states, this is an excellent card for the higher end D-SLRs. It's one of the fastest rated cards on the market with the backing of arguably the most recognized brand for memory cards.

These cards are, however, very expensive (at least to my mind), so don't waste your money on them unless your camera (and you) can take advantage of the fantastic speed they provide. The best example would be sports or action photography where, if your camera is capable of it, this camera will allow you to take a lot more shots in high speed burst mode than a slower card. If you're just shooting snapshots or even nature or still life photography where you don't take shots in rapid succession, I'd say this might be a waste of money for you.

Check the specs on your camera and confirm that it can fully utilize the speed offered by this card.

Oh, and also worth noting is that SanDisk refreshed this model line sometime in 2008 (I think) and upped the rated speed from 40mb/s to 45 mb/s. Make sure you get the right one!

This is an excellent portable drive by Sandisk. This unit can hold 8 gigabytes of files! I have three different units by Sandisk of this same Cruzer Micro model; none have failed. One good thing is that the prices for these great flash drives have come down significantly in the past four years. The most visually appealing option of these drives are the interchangeable skins and caps. They come in different colors; purple, red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and the standard clear! I knew when my other player died I would need to make a big decision on what my next move was. I knew I wanted to review all options before purchasing a new mp3 player. First I knew I wanted to be able to add more space since 4GB seems like a lot of space when in reality its not when I'm a hardcore music listener. So the Sansa Fuze has it where I can add as much external memory as I need in order to get my 1000 songs and other media such as movies and voice recordings. Unlike Apple's Ipod where its limited on space and if you want to upgrade more you can forget it unless you want to fork over another 500 dollars. My Fuze has lasted a year so far and the only regret I have is the fact I didnt get a screen protector and the screens scratched badly from use. I'm not really into watching movies so if you are really into that feature on an Mp3 player then it would probably be wise to invest money into the good brands. SanDisk Sansa Clip 2 GB MP3 Player (Blue) Review

I bought this as a replacement for my 5 year old daughter's Fisher Price Fp3 player when it broke. I have the Sansa Fuze, and really enjoyed the ease and simplicity of getting songs on and off the player. My daughter loves the blue color, and the clip allows her to attach the player to her clothing or her seatbelt during car trips. She figured out how to use the player in less than an hour, which demonstrates the ease of use. The only thing I wish is that the dial on the front was a spinning dial to adjust the volume, as is found on the Fuze. Overall, great product that I highly recommend.

I have been disappointed by the speed and features of this device. The SanDisk website claims that this is one of their fastest USB drives, but I was disappointed by the performance when I tried it for myself. The write times are painfully slow - about 2-3 MB/sec. (The read times are pretty good - about 20 MB/sec). If you want the backup feature, it is only compatible with Windows XP and Vista. And experts won't be happy that it's bundled with S3 software.

I needed something quickly, so I didn't have good alternatives from my local retailer. If I had another choice, I would have passed on this drive.

SanDisk 32GB Cruzer USB 2.0 Flash Drive (SDCZ36-032G-A11, Retail Package) Review

I have purchased many thumb drives from many vendors, all of which have been very quick and handy. I have also attended conferences where thumb drives were given out as prizes, or because they contained copies of the presentation. These drives are usually painfully slow, and a complete waste of packaging.

Sadly, this 32GB Cruzer is in the waste-of-packaging camp. I'm actually sorry I spent the money on the product and the next-day Prime shipping. The drive itself is unusably slow if you are transferring files over a few megabytes...and since it's 32GB, you're probably purchasing it for just that reason. Copying 4GB of image and video files takes about 45minutes to an HOUR!!

In addition to the fact that the drive is insanely slow, SanDisk has also found it necessary to include a fake CD drive on the device that contains their garbage encryption software and whatnot. These manufacturers need to learn that NOBODY wants these partitions, especially novice users that probably have Autorun turned on.

If I could, I would return this drive immediately. I'm that dissatisfied. I won't be making this mistake twice- Sorry SanDisk.

SanDisk Sansa Fuze 4 GB Video MP3 Player (Pink) Review

There is a lot to love about this MP3 player. If I could give it 4.5 stars, I would do so. I just purchased a little over a week ago, so the jury is still out and I have some minor quibbles, so out of principle I gave only 4.

The Good:
1) Although it comes in a default of "auto" USB mode (which switches to MTP mode if you have Windows Media Player installed), this player is easily switchable in menu (SYSTEM SETTINGS > USB MODE) to MSC mode, which allows you to easily copy and paste MP3 (and video, see below) onto the drive as if it were a flash drive. This also allows it to work with Ubuntu Linux, and I assume Mac (but untested by me) - for audio files only. BTW, files loaded in MTP mode are not accessible in MSC and vice versa.
2) The touch wheel is extremely comfortable and has a very intuitive and predictable feel. I would have changed some of the settings (e.g. up and down for navigating menu lists like my TV remote, rather than glide 'rotating' the wheel) but that is a minor quibble.
3) Comes with free video conversion (Windows) software called Sansa Media Converter, or SMC for short (but see below for the downside). This is very nearly a mandatory software requirement to view video (unlike Rhapsody which is an optional install and not required to hear audio).
4) Player has update for firmware that allows use of open source audio codes FLAC (free lossless) and OGG (an open source MP3 alternative). I have not yet tested these formats on this player (may not be supported on earlier firmware to which I reverted).
5) FM radio is a nice bonus, and appears to work well, even in my relatively radio-wave-free neighborhood and on the train. Up to 10 presets possible.
6) MicroSDHC card expandable (up to 32gb!) I have not tested this with audio or video, but this was a strong selling point for me, and I will take it back if it doesn't work!

The Bad
1) The video. In a nutshell, even though advertised to support MPEG-4 videos, do not be fooled: no attempt appears to have been made to support compatible video podcasts (e.g. h.264 codec) or Ipods (320 x 200 size video and different codecs)...so count on pre-converting ANY video you want to watch on this player using the SMC (see above). As this is not available on Linux, you may as well not try to use video with Ubuntu Linux or any other version that I know of. I have spent many hours trying to find a codec that was both compatible with this player and available via Linux converter software (e.g. mp4 or h.263 etc) but apparently this player uses one and only one unique flavor of mpeg-4 - a DIVX version? Or perhaps something that relies on DirectShow (I have no particular knowledge about this so these are only guesses).
2) The viewable video screen is an odd size: 224pixels wide by 176 pixels high (vs. the usual 320 by 200 for IPods. This means if you transcode any ipod videos, any text will be smudged. NOTE: The Fuze screen is very clear otherwise, if a bit small to watch much of anything on for a long time!
3) The free SMC converter is kind of lousy - it takes nearly as long to convert a video as to watch it, and the Fuze must be plugged into your computer to do any conversions (ie you can't convert videos while you are out and about unless you leave the Fuze with the computer).
4) I DID find one other program (on Windows) which works well and seems faster than SMC. Its called WinAVI (google for, I believe, Version 8), and provided you choose the right settings (224 x 176, 20 frames per second, and mp3 audio, saved in an AVI container file) Just drag the resulting files into the "Videos" folder on the Fuze and you should be golden.
5) One other reason I would take off a half point is the odd behavior of inability to turn off the MP3 player (apparently common these days). This could be considered a 'feature" (resume where you left off), but it turned up as a problem when somehow the Fuze tried to play the SMC converted video with the audio player, and I didn't know how to get out of that loop, even with a soft reset (hold the on button on for several seconds, it will reset). The solution? Hit the home button, navigate to Record, start to record, but don't save...MP3 and FM radio will both be turned off. I also reverted to an older firmware just to be sure it wasn't the new firmware causing the instability.
6) It only has a built in, non-changeable, rechargeable battery, so consider this device a 'rental'. BTW, it can only be charged with its own special adapter to USB (not a generic USB connection on the Fuze proper). This means you'll probably want to buy an AC and car adapter if you're going to be out for a long time (I have not verified the battery life but it seems pretty good, at least for audio-only use).

In the future, it would be nice to see:
1) More standard open source video codec format compatible with all platforms and various other software, not just the SMC
2) More standard (larger) video screen (e.g. 320 x 200)
3) Replaceable battery (I can dream)

Overall, an excellent MP3/OGG/FLAC audio player. Video screen although clear and bright is marginally functional as a video viewere and more useful as a navigational device.

Defective plastic case "SanDisc2GB Pro Duo SDMSPD-2048-A11"

I purchased a Sandisc from Amazon.com along with a sony cyber shot camera. Buying the SanDisc proved to be a mistake. When I attempted to take the disc out of the camera the top portion broke off into the camera. I had to send the camera back to Sony to extract the top portion of the disc. Sony was good enough, without charge, to extract the defective SanDisc out of the camera free of charge. I contacted SanDisc to find out if this was a common problem with disc. It took several contacts with Sandisc only to be told I broke it. I told them that the disc shouldn't break when taking it out of a camera. The plastic encasing the disc was defective. They said there was no warranty on a broken disc which translate to no warranty when you buy a cheep product. I asked to talk to a supervisor and as of this date i have received no response. Well I learned my lesson buying a cheep product to save a buck and will never buy there product again. Stay with the company that made the product, in this case Sony, I bought the Sony disc which by just looking at it you can tell the quality is superior and performed perfectly without breaking into pieces when extracting it from the camera.

SanDisk 16GB Cruzer USB 2.0 Flash Drive (SDCZ36-016G-A11, Retail Package) Review

I have had this device for over a month now and I have filled it over 65% already and have had no issues with speed or compatability. Worked on all platforms. I did remove the U3 SW as I prefer to use Portable Apps. I will break down the review as such:

Compatibility: I have used it on Win XP, Win Vista, Mac OS X and Windows 2000. No issues at all.

Speed: I copied 8 GB worth of data on the very first day. With write speeds around 15+ MB/s - it performed as expected. Its not the fastest but it is adequate for 99% of users.

Durability: Well, I didn't think I could say much about this except that it has worked fine daily for the last month or so. I will add that this little device did survive a full wash and dry cycle and still is chugging along. I think that speaks volumes about its durability. I know its a SSD so it should be expected to survive such things - but you don't believe it until you see/experience it.

Asthetics: It is very compact. It has an orange light that flashes when it is in action. The USB connector retracts. Simple, nothing fancy though it does have a nice look to it - what more can you ask for?

Price: This is certainly not the cheapest 16GB drive out there but with the SanDisk name behind it, it certainly is a value buy. Another plus.

I would highly recommend this product to anyone who is looking for a fast, widely compatible, durable and value USB drive that has enough space for anything you would want to put on it.

Sandisk SDSDX3-008G-A31 8GB Extreme III SD Card Review

Recently I purchased a Nikon D90 and I needed a memory card to go with it.
I was a click away from getting the much cheaper Transcend card with the environmentally friendly packaging that Amazon has been pushing.
But in the end I went with the Sandisk because it's what I use in my other digital cameras and I've never had a problem with them.
Maybe the Transcend is just as good, I don't know. I certainly would have proffered the "green" wrapping.
I do know that I've never had a problem yet with a Sandisk card. I stayed with a proven winner and so far I'm happy.

SanDisk Sansa View 16 GB Video MP3 Player (Black) Review

This device has been nothing but trouble. I ignored the user review comments about firmware glitches and bought it right after it came out. Soon I was having trouble; playlists mysteriously disappearing after being downloaded from Rhapsody, songs becoming scrambled between lists, etc. etc. I would download a play list and go back to find only half of the songs still in memory, even after I'd played the list successfully several times. The download times are ridiculously long.
We finally persuaded the third world Sansa tech support automatons that there was a problem, tried all their suggested remedies and downloads at length to no avail, and convinced them to replace the unit. The replacement has had similar problems. It definitely has difficulty communicating with Rhapsody. Today I noticed that the excellent graphic display was showing the artist, album name and album cover art for each song but with an incorrect song title (another song on the playlist). This problem dissappeared as soon as I unplugged the player from the aux jack in my truck.
My son has a Zune, my wife has a cheap Sirius Mp3 player, both of which work fine all the time. I suggest you look elsewhere if you are considering a Sansa 16 particularly if you are a Rhapsody subscriber.

SanDisk Sansa View 8 GB Video MP3 Player (Black) Review

I have owned this product for just over a year now and it's still going strong! Excellent display and sound!

My favorite option for this MP3 player is the file transfer method. No iTunes, no special formatting, just drag and drop. Transfer files from CD, your computer, other MP3 players, you name it! Although there is software that must be installed first (the CD is included) to accomplish this, but once that is done, your computer recognizes the MP3 player as an external hard drive.

I've seen other reviews which mention fingerprints. There is a very easy solution...there is also a sleeve/armband available for this product which I also purchased (just search the web). The sleeve is made of rubber which makes this MP3 player that much more durable (believe me, mane has been dropped plenty of times and doesn't have a scratch on it!)

This MP3 player also offers lots of other options. microphone, FM radio, you can also store audiobooks, movies, and pictures. With 8MB of storage, you can get it all on this MP3.

Bottom line: excellent quality, durable, great options!

You will not waste your money on this product!

SanDisk SDCFX4-4096-901 4GB Extreme IV CompactFlash Card Review

Extremely versatile (good storage capacity, high transfer speed for 25 MB NEFs) memory card for my D300. I have three of these and I prefer more lower capacity cards than fewer higher capacity cards. I highly recommend using extreme IV cards because, if you shoot RAW and 14-bit on a D300, the files are around 25 MB each and high-speed transfer cards are a must for your kit. You can store around 150 14-bit NEFs on a 4GB card. Highly recommended.

SanDisk Sansa Fuze 2 GB Video MP3 Player (Black) Review

When I first started looking into getting an MP3 player, the one thing that stuck out in front was the iPod. What stuck out even more was the price of it. I thought I was out of luck until my sister bought a Sansa MP3 player for herself. That's when I realized the iPod wasn't the only player out there. But, I decided to be careful about what player I went out and bought. I was interested in a player that played MP3s but was upgradable as well. SanDisk has been good to me and my dad so I looked through their products. Of all the players I found, this one plays MP3s (superb audio quality), has a built-in radio (limited to FM, but comes in clear), and has an upgrade slot expandable to 32gb (microSDHC only). Aside from some minor shortcomings (it plays videos but in a specific format I have yet to figure out), this product was very satisfactory.

Some extra info that I found useful was the ability of the player to organize MP3 files according to the built-in information found in most MP3 files.

SanDisk Sansa Clip 2 GB MP3 Player (Black) Review

So far this player has delivered in regards to playback of music and even better: audio books and podcasts since it bookmarks automatically when it shuts off. The one thing I really hate is the flimsy plastic clip it comes with which already has a couple of splits in it. A much better idea would be to provide a METAL clip but I guess that's just the company cutting corners. overall a competent but flawed design.

I am a 40-ish year old musician who is very "aware" of the quality of sound, but not anal about it. I love great sound quality like anyone else. A well-rounded sound will have nice highs, mids and lows. My Sansa 1GB Clip MP3 player is the new audio love-of-my-life for my daily walks while enjoy music. Using my computer, I rip my CD's at 128kbps which truly IS adequate for a real good listening experience and perfect for storing plenty of music into 1 gb of storage spaceon this MP3 player. The Sansa has a good clean sound with various Equalizer settings, including the option of selecting your own "custom" settings, which is what I do. The Sansa is very easy to navigate due to an adequate screen size and, more importantly, well-placed buttons that are easy to press. The player is so small and light-weight, that it is effortless to carry with you. I have owned MANY MP3 players in my time, and the Sansa is one of THEE best, easily! Now please pay attention to what I am going to say, here. If you want to make the BEST of your listening experience, get yourself a real good set of headphones or earbuds. Many MP3 players come packaged with inferior ear-wear. In my case, I used the Sennheiser PX-200 heaphones that go over your head, like traditional heaphones. They are lightweight and even fold up. These provide a wonderful bass sound with plenty of mids and highs. The Sennheiser model compliments the Sansa Clip MP3 player perfectly! If you prefer earbuds, you can find some nice choices made bySennheiser or Sony. If you want additional tonal choices, you can get a 3-band equalizer that is made by Koss. It comes with a cable so that you connect your Koss to your MP3 player and then plug your headphones into your Koss, which runs on batteries. But really, the Sennheiser heaphones would be enough. I highly-recommend that you go that route! I only take time to write a review when I am truly excited about a product, and the Sansa Clip 1GB is worth every word!!!
